Every year millions of visitors, as well as D.C.-area residents descend upon the National Mall and Tidal Basin to view the cherry blossom trees . The Cherry Blossom Festival that sprung up from these gorgeous reminders of spring is full of activities and performances for all members of the family.

Cherry trees are indigenous to many Asian countries, such as China and Korea. But in Japan, where more than 200 varieties can be found, they are known as Sakura and are considered to be an incredibly exalted flowering plant.
