U.S. Missiles Kill Five Militants
PAKISTAN, — U.S. missile attacks killed at least five militants in North Waziristan tribal district, Pakistan, on Friday (01/07/2011). In addition, the missile attack also destroyed a vehicle group, security officials said.
Pakistan security officials reported the attacks on the Taliban base. United States officials have asked Pakistan to launch a ground offensive to cripple the militant threat.
They say, the attacks that killed five militants in the village of Ghar Laley, 35 km west of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan that is very close to the border with Afghanistan. "The planes fired four missiles destined for one vehicle and a house," said an official with the local kaamanan Pakistan. "So far five bodies have been found," he said.
"The Taliban surrounded the area and there are fears the death toll likely to grow," he said.
